Lighting Design
Good lighting is planned, not bolted on after the fact. Before a single fixture goes in the wall, a real lighting design lays out how every room should feel: where you need bright, even light to work or cook, where you want a soft glow for evenings on the patio, and how the outside of your home reads after dark. That plan is what separates a room that just has lights in it from a room that’s actually been designed.
What goes into a lighting design
We start by walking the space with you — and with your builder, architect, or electrician if it’s new construction — to understand how each room will be used and where natural light already falls. From there, we layer three types of lighting into a single plan: ambient light for general visibility, task lighting for kitchens, offices, and workspaces, and accent lighting to highlight architecture, art, or landscaping. We also handle the wiring and load planning behind the scenes, so whether you’re pouring a foundation or renovating a 20- year-old home, the electrical work matches the design instead of the other way around.
What goes into a lighting design
A lighting plan doesn’t stop at the front door. We design interior spaces — kitchens, great rooms, media rooms, wine cellars, primary suites — right alongside exterior and architectural lighting for facades, pools, patios, and outdoor living areas, so the whole property feels intentional from the street to the backyard. For homes with extensive grounds or waterfront property, this pairs directly with our landscape lighting work.
Designed to be controlled
A lighting design is only half the story until it’s tied into a control system. Once your plan is in place, we integrate it with Control4, Lutron, or Savant so an entire room’s lighting — ambient, task, and accent — can shift with a single scene, whether that’s “movie night,” “dinner party,” or “goodnight.” Read more about how that works on our controlled lighting page.
